Several seniors and staff got into the spirit of Halloween this year - costumes included a deviled egg, a hippie, a cat, a witch and her pirate dog, and a ghostly ghoul.

The Cookbook Committee - Ruby Daury, Peg Daniels, and Clare Smith-Bennett, held a book signing in conjunction with the Center's first Breakfast Party.

Thank you to all who baked and entered their delicious pies in our contest. Our judges - Jerry Stomski, Betsey Palmer and Joe Chapman - took their role very seriously and chose the following winners (out of 7 pies); First Place: Barbara Caulkins (Blueberry Pie); Second Place: Mary Munter (Orange Cream Pie); Third Place: Carol O'Hara (Key Lime Pie). In the end we had 17 pies that were enjoyed by about 40 eager taste testers.

A Resource & Information Fair was held at the center in May, which included local representatives for home care, grocery delivery, call buttons, drivers' services, emergency services, and much much more.

Marathon in a Month

Congratulations to those seniors who participated in and completed the Marathon in a Month. Seniors were awarded with a tshirt for accomplishing a total of 26 miles of exercise in the month of May.

Our Wii Winter Bowling League recently held a pot luck banquet at the center to celebrate a great winter season. Certificates were awarded to Pat Barre for the Season High Average and the Best Week Score; Rich Daniels for the High Single Game and the Season High Average Runner-up; Carlys Burghart for the Best Week Score Runner-up; Peg Daniels for the Low Single Game; and Ruby Daury received the Roller Coaster Award.

Senior Council Election Day Bake Sale to Benefit Woodbury Community Services Council

The Woodbury Senior Council held an Election Day Bake Sale at the Senior Center. Donations and purchased baked goods made by council members, raised $500 for the Community Services Council of Woodbury. Council members thank all those involved in the successful fundraiser.

Oktoberfest Potluck 2009

Seniors enjoyed Oktoberfest on October 21 at the center with a potluck luncheon comprised of a flavor variety of sausages and wonderful potluck sides made by fellow seniors. We were also entertained by Woodbury's Al Coe.

Wii Bowling Invitational at the Torrington Senior Center

On July 13 members of our Wii Bowling Team participated in the Wii Bowling Invitational hosted by the Torrington Senior Center. Members attending were Pat Barre, Kathy Neves, Ron & Lyn Hellwinkle, and Peg Robinson. Kathy Neves was even lucky enough to win a beautiful gift basket and Lyn Hellwinkle won a bottle of wine. We thank the Torrington Senior Center for their hospitality.

Thanks to our "Super Stuffers" who came together to assemble and prepare for the Ambulance Association's annual mailing. Representatives from the Ambulance Association repeatedly told us your help makes their appeal possible. As for us, who knew stuffing envelopes can be a party? The Super Stuffers did (and do!)
